Welcome to the first ‘Weekly Transition’ for 2013! We trust you have all enjoyed a small (or long!) break and are firing for the second (and arguably the biggest) half of the triathlon season. There are some big races ahead – which means some big training ahead also!
Our Hell Week Challenge was a great success and great fun again for all those who took part in some way, so well done to you all. As long as you ensure to allow the body to adapt and recover from the training during Hell Week, you will see the benefits of your hard work in the coming week/s. And even at worst, if it allowed you to keep a routine over the Christmas/New Year Period – OR in other cases, kick start the training again, then you are on a winner! So well done again everyone. Check out pictures from the Week here….
For the next few months there are races a plenty including big events such as world qualifying racing in SA, TAS and QLD, Geelong Long Course/Olympic Distance, Sandringham Olympic Distance, Ironman Melbourne and the newly formed Triple Crown….. The list goes on! So now is not the time to become complacent. A tough job for both athlete and coach is to manage you through the season and peak at the right times for your key races. So those racing the Gatorade/Active Feet Series should really start to be hitting their stride, those aiming for World Qualifying races will be putting the finishing touches on their preps and Geelong/Melbourne contingent will really start to hit the big km’s in the next month. If you feel you are not on track, make sure you speak to a Coach before it is too late.
So with a big couple of months training ahead for our Long Course athletes, and plenty of upcoming races for our Short Course, its going to be a busy but exciting few months ahead!
WELCOME TO OUR NEWEST ATHLETES
The Tri Alliance Team continues to grow from strength to strength and over the past weeks we have had a large number of new athletes including those training online/remotely, so we officially welcome you all to the team and look forward to helping you reach your goals. New athletes include:
Geoff Dart, Stephen Drake, David Burton, Glen Smith, Jessie Waugh, Ben Layton, Nicole Allen, Jeremy Williamson, Martin Sammit and Christie Love. All training for various races and distances – so welcome to you all!
FACEBOOK – more than a ‘social network’
Everyone knows about Facebook and what it’s about, but some are still unaware or are still reluctant to go to ‘the dark side’ and join the billions of others in the world in embracing the social network. Tri Alliance however, utilises Facebook on many levels (like millions of other businesses/clubs/groups) and one of the reasons is it allows for direct communication to our athletes in an instant. Any changes to training, updates in sessions, new events etc are all delivered via the Facebook medium. We also use it to share pictures, stories and allow athletes to interact with each other.
So if you have yet to embrace Facebook, we encourage you to at least set up an ‘alias’ account and follow Tri Alliance so you don’t miss out on any important or noteworthy information directed to our athletes which may not communicated on email. And we are use if you need a hand setting one up – our past recipient of our ‘facebook Award’ David Nealon will happily get you sorted and even become your first friend! Happy facebooking…
ATHLETE TEAM MEETING & SMIDDY CAMPAIGN LAUNCH
Tuesday 15 January 2012
Tri Alliance welcomes it’s athletes to our next exciting team meeting for the year, which includes the launch of the Tri Alliance Smiddy Fundraising Campaign!

Tri Alliance is proud to join the fight against cancer by joining forces with Smiling for Smiddy – a non-profit organisation raising money for Cancer Research.
Smiling for Smiddy was set up in memory of Queensland Age Group Triathlete Adam Smiddy who passed away from an aggressive form of Melanoma Cancer in 2006 at just 26 years of age. With a number of our own athletes touched by loved ones facing the battle against cancer – including Robert Scapins’ beautiful wife Belinda who recently lost that battle, Cancer Research is often in the forefront of our minds.
Smiling for Smiddy encourages participants to raise money on the journey to their next triathlon or multi-sports goal and as an added benefit they help cover your Tri Alliance Coaching Fees! So all you have to do is focus on your training and raising money for a great cause!
