QLD WEEKLY TRANSITIONS 26/9/12
TRIATHLON QUEENSLAND CLUB CHAMPS – MORETON BAY TRIATHLON
We had a great turnout on Sunday for race 2 of the Club Champs series. With some perfect conditions for racing it was pleasing to see many athletes have a good hit out for some bigger races ahead.
The final points tally will be released later in the week but hopefully we have extended our lead in the series and that bit closer to winning the overall series. Remember regardless of what place we come our sponsors from Elite Sports Massage, Mizuno, Rocket Science and Videopro will be giving away prizes to members that competed in the series.
A big thanks to Mizuno for the $200 pair of shoes they gave away as a random draw which was won by Brooke Shaw. Again Brett from Elite Sports Massage and Peter Stanton from UQ Sports and Rehab did a great job with massage and physio.
As always the BBQ afterwards organised by the social committee was a hit and a perfect way to finish the day.
CONGRATULATIONS
Well done to Darrell Giles who placed 25th on Sunday at the World Duathlon Champs in France. It was Darrell’s first World Champs and I am sure it won’t be his last based on his improvement in the last 12 months.
Not too much rest though as Darrell will be at IM camp this weekend on the Sunshine Coast.
IM CAMP
Our long course team heading to Busso are away this weekend for a 4 day training camp on the Sunshine Coast. With the race only 11 weeks away it is a great opportunity to get in some specific volume and build the required endurance for IM.
TRAINING
After a couple of easy days to recover from the weekend’s race it is back into it tomorrow. Some quality intervals tomorrow morning on the bike with 100%ers style session for everyone and then same again for the rest of the week.
The Saturday morning session for both Brisbane and Gold Coast members is a swim wind trainer from the Valley and Southport pool. These sessions are great to train the body to get used to triathlon and not just swim, bike and run. Triathlon is one sport made up of a swim, bike and run and where ever the opportunity arises to practice them together it should be taken.
In line with that our first transitions sessions of the season will be next Saturday Oct 6th at Redcliffe. The week after on the 14th is the first race of the Qld Tri Series at Raby Bay where athletes racing at Worlds and Noosa will use it as their last hit out.
Also our current beginner course will be graduating at Raby Bay so the transition session is their last key session to prepare them for the race. We’ll have post training snacks available after the transitions session at Redcliffe also.
QUEENSLAND TRI SERIES
As a major sponsor of this year’s Qld Tri Series Tri Alliance members receive a $5 discount per race. After joining as a member you would have received a promo code with your member confirmation e-mail that can be used when entering.
By using that code you will go into a draw to have your entry refunded for the first race at Raby Bay. Also members that use that code will get a priority check on race day in at the Tri Alliance tent and not have to line up with the general public.
Along with race day massage/physio and our 2 new 8 x 4m Tri Alliance tents it gives members a great experience. As always family and friends are welcome to join us to watch all the action. We’ll also have a 4 x 4m tent in sponsor row for people to make enquiries about joining Tri Alliance.
NEW SPONSOR – UQ SPORTS & REHAB
For the coming season we have a new Physiotherapy provider, UQ Sports and Rehab. They are based at the University of Queensland above the running track in the grandstand and Tri Alliance members will receive 15% off treatments.
They will also be on hand to provide physio support at our major races this season as Peter Stanton was on Sunday at Redcliffe. In fact Peter is widely regarded as the best sports Physiotherapist in Australia and an expert in run technique analysis.
He has extensive experience with athletes from the elite level down to age group and was the head Physio at the Brisbane Lions for a number of years as well as the personal physio to the likes of Kieran Perkins.
Peter has already started working with some of our members to improve their run technique through some video analysis work. It is an area that we will be working on with more with Peter in the future through some run specific clinics.
The clinic is owned by Paul Fien who like Peter has extensive experience dealing with athletes of all levels. Along with the rest of the team at UQ Sports and Rehab our members are in great hands should they need treatment for injuries.
Their contact phone number is 3871 0633. To receive discount there and at any of our sponsors members must present their Tri Alliance member card.
For our Gold Coast members we again have the support of Gold Coast Physio and Sports Health at Runaway Bay on 5500 6470. The clinic is owned by Britt Calling who has just returned from the Olympics where she was the physio for Sally Pearson and the triathlon team.
Britt has a great team behind her and this season they will be assisting us at all the Gold Coast Events.
