UNIFORMS
The new running uniforms have arrived and they look great. They will be distributed at training this week starting on the Gold Coast tonight and Brisbane on Friday and Saturday mornings. There are also replacement sizes for those who needed to change their tri suits.
The cycling gear is not too far away and we thank everyone for their patience in waiting for the gear. Once we have this first order completed the process for future orders will be much more streamlined.
CAIRNS IRONMAN AND 70.3IM INFORMATION NIGHT
After having to cancel the information night scheduled for last night it will now be on next Monday the 4th of February. The location is still the same at the Mater Foundation 588 Stanley Street, South Brisbane and will kick off at 6.15pm for a 6.30pm start.
Some of the information is relevant for all long distance training so even if you are not doing Cairns and targeting another long course event it will be worthwhile attending.
SMILING FOR SMIDDY MOVIE NIGHT
As part of our fundraising campaign for Smiling for Smiddy we are having a movie fundraising night on Friday February 22nd. The movie is the Academy award nominated Silver Linings Playbook.
It will be at the Police Barracks Cinema on Petrie Terrace and all proceeds from the night will go towards our 2013 fundraising campaign for the Smiddy Foundation.
Tickets are $25 which includes the movie and finger food. Save the date in your calendar, bring along family and friends and join us for a night at the movies. Details on how to pay will be in the upcoming social newsletter to members later this week.
TRIATHLON QUEENSLAND SERIES
Round 3 of the Triathlon Queensland club champs series was held the weekend before last at Southport. It was great to see so many members compete and continue to support the club champs series.
Triathlon Queensland will be releasing the points tally at some stage in the next week. With one more round to go at Redcliffe on the 7th of April it should be a close competition right to the end.
Special congratulations to Claire Lynch, Jan Avery Spoor and John Agyik who all had wins in their respective age groups to become state champions. Claire Lynch also won the Tri Alliance club handicap competition and took home a Mizuno running pack.
The results of Tri Alliance members are on the website at http://dev.tri-alliance.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/Aquathlon-Champs.pdf
MOOLOOLABA TRAINING CAMP
We have a couple of spots left for the Mooloolaba Training Camp from February 8-10. If you would like to go please e-mail qld@dev.tri-alliance.com.au
TRAINING/RACING
We are certainly back into the swing if things after the holidays. Training wise we have been doing a short block of hills before we go into a some race pace intensity intervals on the bike and run.
As we’re halfway into the season we have built up a solid base of endurance so now is the time to do some race pace work for the short course athletes. For the long course athletes it will be a different focus compared to those aiming at Mooloolaba and other short course events. More strength work and some longer aerobic power intervals will be on the training menu in the next few weeks.
The racing season is also well under way as this weekend we have members heading out to Hell of the West and the QTS event at Caloundra. There will be Tri Alliance tents at both venues for members and their families.
Then the next weekend is the Mooloolaba Camp and the final race of the QTS series at Raby Bay on February 24th where our current beginner course group will graduate. Into March we have members heading to IM New Zealand, then Mooloolaba and IM Melbourne.
April brings the last Tri Qld event at Redcliffe, Luke Harrop and the long distance camp on the Sunshine Coast. In May is the Byron Bay Triathlon before the season finishes with Cairns in early June.
