NEW TRAINING SCHEDULE GOLD COAST
Due to the closure of the pool at Southport our training schedule on the Gold Coast has now changed. We’ll be swimming from the pool at the Runaway Bay Super Sports Centre on a Tuesday and Thursday nights from 6-7pm.
Additionally the run session will now change to Wednesday morning from 5.30am and the wind trainer changes to a Friday morning also from 5.30am. These sessions will also continue to be based from the Super Sports Centre.
There will also be a new bike session on Tuesday mornings from 5.15am and Saturday mornings will continue as normal. This new program was in operation from this morning.
UNIFORMS
The new cycling gear has arrived and has been distributed at training. We’ll continue to distribute at training over the next few days.
If any of your new garments are not fitting correctly let us know and we will arrange replacement sizes.
We welcome any feedback on both the elite Rocket Science garments and the standard range. Any time you change not only brand but manufacturer we realise that it might not suit everyone so please let us know if you have any feedback we can give to the manufacturer.
QTS RABY BAY
The final race of the QTS series was held on the weekend at Raby Bay. The event was sold out a couple of weeks ago which is unheard of and a reflection of the continuing popularity of triathlon.
Our current group of beginner course participants finished their course at the race. They have had a great 6 weeks and are now looking at their next goal. We would like to welcome them into our main squad program and look forward to seeing them at training and future races.
We have had some great stories and performances from previous beginner course participants including IM podiums, World Champs representatives and age group winners. We’re looking forward to watching this next group develop and provide us with further inspiration.
Thanks to the coaching team of Ray, Brad, Chris and Claire for the great work they did in getting them ready. The results of those from the beginner course are at http://dev.tri-alliance.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/Beginners-Results.pdf
A full list of Tri Alliance results from Raby Bay is at http://dev.tri-alliance.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/2013-02-24-Raby-Bay.pdf
GOOD LUCK
Good friends, work mates and training buddies Nush Vanderwilt and Emily Myers left for IM New Zealand this morning. They have been working hard under the guidance of coach Ray for the last few months to get ready for anything that Taupo throws at them this weekend.
It will be the first IM for both after working their way up from the smaller distances. Nush came through one of our beginner courses some 3 years ago so it has been great to see her develop to the point where she is ready for an IM. Emily also has shown great natural talent in the last 18 months since joining the squad.
On behalf of everyone at Tri Alliance, good luck, go hard and enjoy everything that is IM.
GOGGLES AND SWIM GEAR WANTED
Our great coach from Samoa, Ray Ruepena is calling for another donation of unwanted swim goggles and swimming equipment that he can send home for kids taking up triathlon in Samoa.
Ray has done this in the past and it has been extremely well received so if you have any unwanted or old swimming equipment please pass onto Ray. Triathlon is a very new sport in Samoa and later this year they are having their first half IM event which Ray will be competing in.
If we can do a little more to help promote that through some donations to the local kids it goes along way to getting more people competing in this great sport of ours.
IM WORLD CHAMPION PETE JACOBS TO TALK AT TRI ALLIANCE CAMP
We have been fortunate enough to secure current IM World Champion Pete Jacobs to talk at our long distance training camp in April at Noosa.
Pete will naturally talk about his success at Hawaii last year and the journey to IM World Champion but also specifically around his nutrition strategy he employed with Shotz Nutrition, one of our sponsors.
Getting the right nutrition strategy is crucial to achieving a good result for any long distance race so having Pete come along and talk about his experiences is something we’re really looking forward to.
