WORD FROM THE COACHES
The Shepparton Half Ironman is always a great weekend on the triathlon calendar. We had 47 athletes involved in the race, plus those who helped out at the TriKids event on the Saturday and the team of athletes who made the trip up on Sunday specifically to cheer on their fellow athletes! This event is one of the only Half Ironman races put on for triathletes by triathletes and you can truly appreciate the time, effort and dedication all the volunteers from the Shepparton Tri Club and Community of volunteers put in to make this race a truly amazing event. A must do on the Long Course Calendar. Read our wrap up and results from the race here.
We also had Advanced Short Course Athlete Daniel Kelly head up to sunny and beautiful Hamilton Island Triathlon and he snared himself second place in the sprint event. Well done Dan – with determination, dedication and listening and implementing coaches advice, you are well on your way this year. Keep it up.
A new event to Melbourne in the past couple of years is the City to Sea – a fun run from the city the the ‘sea’ at StKilda. A great event and a great day put on by Melbourne. Well done to all athletes who participated.
Thanks to LIV Giant, GIANT Hampton and Witsup, a number of our female athletes got the chance to listen, chat to and ask questions with Olympian Erin Densham, U23 World Champ Charlotte McShane and new Witsup Ambassador Hanna Whiteside.
A great night listening to what it takes to make it to the top, but also learning that these girls are ‘normal’ just like the rest of us – having their ups and downs and learning how to overcome hurdles thrown at them.
Tonight the Tri Alliance Team and Run Group will be participating and supporting the Hertz Relay Run at Albert Park. The event kicks off at 6.45pm, so if you are heading to MSAC for a swim, or have the night off, pop down come and say hi and check out this great fun event!
For those short course athletes who made the drive to Shepparton, the support favour will be repaid this weekend as we head into Race 1 of the Gatorade/Active Feet Tri Series at our home ground at Elwood. Tri Alliance will have around 80 athletes racing, and if you haven’t entered yet, make sure you do! Simply sign up online here – and don’t forget to choose Tri Alliance as your Club/Squad for your discount. Online entries close on Thursday – so don’t miss out!
MEET OLYMPIAN ERIN DENSHAM!
We have invited Olympic Medalist Erin Densham to join us on Saturday so the rest of the team can meet her. She will be joining us for our pre race session 7.30am at Elwood, followed by a Q&A, tips and advice at 8.30am. Make sure you don’t miss out – doesn’t happen very often that you get a chance to meet an Australia Triathlete Olympic Medalist!
