WORD FROM THE COACHES
The first of our big Team Ironman events for the 2013-14 season was held in the magnificent town of Busselton (Busso), Western Australia. Ironman Western Australia is renowned for crystal blue waters and a golden warm sunshine to match; the event this year surely did not disappoint with near iconic racing conditions.
11 Tri Alliance Victoria athletes whom had been slogging it out over winter were ready to tackle the picturesque course and achieve their dreams and aspirations. Amongst the team was Busso veteran Greg Nugent whom was making his 5th appearance and TA high performance athlete Marina Jurjevic who was looking to add another title to her growing list of achievements. We had 4 first timers in Peet and Juliet Vermuelen, Andy Peters and Magda Urbanek. Other team members included the flying Jody Biddle who was coming off a superb race in Shepparton 3 weeks earlier, Matty Green, Nick Sissons and Paul O’dowd who were all chasing bests and solid performances in their respected age groups. Online athlete Geoff Mcdonald had also been putting in the hard yards over winter and was on track for a new personal best.
And as we sit back and reflect on the weekend, we cannot be prouder of our athletes for their dedication and determination in taking on this race. You not only did your Coaches proud, more importantly you did yourselves proud! Read our full wrap up of Ironman Western Australia here.
CANBERRA HALF IRONMAN
This weekend is another big one for Long Course racing, and we have 8 athletes heading to Canberra for the Canberra Half Ironman. The race starts with a swim in the murky Lake Burley Griffin, a scenic 3 lap bike around parliament and surrrounding parklands and through part of the CBD which includes a steady climb on each lap to keep athletes honest. The race finishes with a relatively flat 3 lap run course which can prove to be fast if athletes have raced smart on the bike. The race kicks off at 6.15am with wave starts following. Click here for more information on the race.
So good luck to each of our athletes racing – we look forward to tracking you on Sunday!
- Mick Ryan
- Daryl Clemson
- David Inglis – 1st Half
- Edward Smith
- David Dwyer – 1st Half
- Blake Henry
- Andy Wood-Rich
- Emily Wilson – 1st Half
