WORD FROM THE COACHES
It’s been just over 2 weeks since the last Gatorade Race in Melbourne, 3 weeks post Ironman Melbourne. How quickly time can fly when you are enjoying it with your family and friends and sleeping more than 8 hours a night!
There are however, athletes that are right in the middle of their training builds for races coming up in the next few months including Janet Miller and Steve Bridges taking on Challenge Roth, Peter Hinrichsen and Paul Raynor backing up from Melbourne and doing IM Cairns, Tim French and Charlie Nathan in Cairns Half and Rohan Belmore ready to toe the line at Ironman port Macquarie next month. Most of our Edmonton Sprint and Olympic Distance World Championship Qualifiers will start their easy build back into training in the next week, and our Kona Qualifiers won’t be far behind the. While most others are still enjoying their downtime while they can (trust us – you will thank us later in the year!), or slowly starting to come out of hibernation after they realise the scales have ticked over another kilo.
It has been great though having a laugh and some fun during our April sessions – particularly for those who have trained hard all year round. On the weekend we had our LIV Giant & Giant Rides, and Sunday saw a great group head out to the Dandenongs for the 1000 Steps and Breakfast with Coach Dazz. Our 28 Day April Tri Challenge has also been a hit. Without even knowing it, these guys are starting to set their bodies up for a sound winter of training. So if you’ve missed joining this from the start – don’t worry. Click here to join now.
We had a number of athletes out racing and participating in events over the weekend including the Off Road Triathlon at Lysterfield, Run for the Kids and ‘Hendo’ up in Darwin for the NT Sprint Distance Champs. Hendo landed himself on the podium in what was a great race. Click here to read his report. Well done to everyone getting out there and getting involved in events in the local communities.
Please note: Coach Sarah has been having issues with her email over the last week, if you have received an email ‘Important & Confidential please delete. Also if you have sent an email to Sarah and have yet to receive a response, please re-send as numerous emails were automatically deleted. Hopefully this issue is now resolved.

SETTING NUTRITION GOALS
When the last race of racing season is done and dusted, most Triathletes will be well and truly into the recovery and transition phase of their program; the well-deserved rest and recovery period before winter training starts again.
The recovery and transition phase is a good time to reflect on past performances, analysing what went well, what didn’t and what could have been done better. It’s a good time to sit down and think about the racing goals for next season, along with setting a realistic action plan on how to achieve these goals. Our resident Sports Dietitian Margaret Mielczarek shares her top tips on setting and sticking to nutrition goals. Continue reading…..
