WORD FROM THE COACHES
We have seen most athletes now slowly start getting back into a normal training routine after enjoying a good few weeks down time to refresh both the mind and body. This is an important part of the training program.
Remember that when you do start to get back into training, your body will take time to adjust to exercise/training again, so leave the Garmin’s at home and simply jump on the bike or pull on the runners and go by feel. Don’t stress about pace or time – your body will tell you how it feels – not the watch.
Next week is officially our first week of our Base Winter Training Program. Details regarding programming, training etc will be provided separately to athletes. So make sure you have completed our Athlete Race Plans Survey to ensure you receive this information.
This Saturday Night we celebrate our Athletes achievements from the 2013/2014 Season, with some big awards up for grabs. We look forward to announcing the winners of our awards – including our Prestigious John Cornish Memorial Scholarship. Purchase your tickets online if you have yet to get yours!
While we are all celebrating the night away, athlete Rohan Belmore is racing Ironman Port Macquarie on Sunday. Rohan, who owns and runs Xtreme Fitness Australia, has done as much work as his body will allow him leading into this event, suffering debilitating knee injuries from years of football. But after not being able to complete Ironman Melbourne last year, he has returned to complete one final Ironman before he retires from the distance. We wish Rohan well in what is a popular and fantastic race to be a part of.
We also want to wish LIDIA URSINI and her team all the best in the Oxfam Trail Walk. The girls will commence the event this Friday morning and have set themselves a target to finish the 100km gruelling course in 26hours – yes you read right!
A word from Lidia: OXFAM Trailwalker is about tackling 100km of Australian bush within 48 hours as a team of four 3 Girls & a Princess which is made up of Lidia Ursini, Juliet Cooper, Diana Angelini & Carolyn O’Brien. As a team, we had a fundraising Target of $5,000 and with very generous family and friends to date we have raised in excess of $6,200 which will make a massive difference to help overcome poverty and injustice around the world.
On Friday May 2 our Start time is 8am at Jells Park and we will be making our way through to Wesburn to cross the finish line with help from an amazing support Crew Stan (Coach & Number 1 Support person!!), Dale Robinson and the lovely Justine Marshall-Owens. These guys will be at our service throughout the whole event as according to Trailwalker rules you can’t compete unless you have a support crew.
If you want to track our progress all you need to do is click on our teamspace link here.
Best of luck to the girls and their support crew!
