1. WORD FROM THE COACHES

RECOVER AND BUILD

As we are now officially in recovery week it is very important to be listening to your body and coaches when we say take it easy. Crew were surprised at wind trainer last night when we wrapped up after only 45mins - some (they shall remain nameless) wanted to keep their Garmin running.... These shorter and easier sessions are built in for you to recover and adapt and become stronger before the next build and the transition into the strength endurance phase. Those who attended Lorne camp should hopefully be beginning to start feeling fresher and stronger. If you are unsure of how easy/hard to take sessions please chat with your coach and always err on the side of caution. Be sure that we will push you when required - and remember the race season is months away - we want to be ready for the season and then make it through without injury or burnout.

TEAM MEETING - TOMORROW THURSDAY JUNE 22nd

Tomorrow in place of the Tan and Essendon run sessions we will be having our first team meeting of the 2017/18 season. This is a perfect opportunity to continue with the momentum we have in the squad by sharing some new and exciting things we have in the pipeline alongside checking in on the training phases and hearing from our Kona bound Cairns athletes. We also are going to have an interview/question and answer session with some athletes/coaches from short and long course to give all an insight into where they have come from, what makes them tick and what it took to get to where they are now. The meeting will be from 6:15pm at the Elwood Sailing Club and will have a short run session prior for those who can get there early (5:30pm). Please check out the Facebook Event for more information.

STRENGTH SESSION

We have been listening to your feedback and are putting on a specific strength session for you in the next couple of weeks. As you may know Coach Scott practises what he preaches in doing strength and conditioning regularly through the off-season and we have secured a free session for you at his local gym. See below for more details.

TRAINING UPDATES

This Saturday there are two ride options - one from Elwood on Beach Road and one from Wantirna Mall heading into the Dandenongs. See below for times and locations - check your program or chat with your coach if you are unsure of which location you should be at.

EDITOR'S PICK

STRENGTH & CONDITIONING

Wednesday 5th July at 6:30pm we are offering a free S&C session to help our squad get the most from their strength workouts. We'll work on correct movement patterns to ensure exercises are done correctly. Numbers are limited so please email scott@dev.tri-alliance.com.au to secure your spot. This will be at the 8848 Gym in Sandringham with Coach Darren.

SPORTS SCIENCE SNIPPET #4

Coach Frankie this week gives us the low-down on the relationship between resistance training and injury prevention.

Resistance training helps with muscles imbalances by strengthening our weaker muscles. As a result, our system can contract in a coordinated manner with sufficient muscular control. Ultimately, this results in optimal length-tension relationships in addition to optimal force-coupling of muscles.

TRIATHLON TRAINING CAMP THAILAND

Thanyapura Thailand Camp is now the leading camp on our calendar and now is one not to be missed!  Last year we have tailored this camp for the upcoming Ironman World Champs (Kona), 70.3 World Champs and ITU World Championship events or as a springboard to the 2017/18 season.

With the huge success of year one we now have increased the number of athletes to a maximum of 30 athletes catering for all levels

This initiative was born from the need of many athletes who are looking to take their training and racing performance to the next level or for those who need to include a spike in their program, get some real marginal gains and advance themselves as an athlete through true immersion in triathlon training in a world class facility.

Brainstormed and designed by Shotz Sports Director, Darryl Griffiths, author and owner of Shotz Sports Nutrition, and Tri Alliance Level 2 Head Coach and Director, Ollie Allan (Sub 9hr Ironman, 2 x Kona World Champs).

Our aim is to give the attending athletes an incredible experience, jammed packed with insight into and knowledge of significant valuable gains that can contribute to overall performance improvements and success. Thanyapura has been specifically selected as the destination of our premier camp because of its outstanding reputation as a sport, fitness, health and educational haven.
