RECOVERING FROM INJURY & ILLNESS
As we begin to get into our strength phase of our programming we are aware that this will begin to really challenge athletes physically and mentally. It is important that you prepare yourself for the sessions coming up and that you are up to the demands. This is even more important especially for those who have or are coming back from injury/illness. We cannot stress enough that you chat with your coach or the coach at the beginning of the session and do not be afraid to say you need to scale the session accordingly. Coming back too soon, too hard only makes recovery harder and longer. Sets can be reduced, intensity dropped or time increased to make them tailored for you and where you are at now. Be aware of the programming cycle of two weeks build and one recovery (we are now in build 1) so that you take this into account when returning or building back up. Jumping into a build week 2 harder session full throttle when you have been away or off for a bit again might not be the best idea. Think of your longer term goals and a gradual build to your races rather than lots of peaks and troughs. As said if you are unsure raise your hand and ask - lecture over!
TEAM MEETING RECAP
Thank you to all who attended our team meeting last week at Elwood Sailing Club. This was a great opportunity to catch up with athletes in a non-training environment, see how the squad was going, share some important information and give the chance to ask questions. If you were not there the new Tri-Alliance app (due for release soon) was demonstrated, the current and future phases of programming were covered and we had a great panel interview of some of our long and short course athletes giving insight into what makes them tick. Feedback on the meeting has been great in that it has given athletes a different perspective and plenty to be thinking about as we go deeper into our winter training.
Our next Team Meeting will be on Thursday 17th August (again at Elwood) where we will have Mizuno along showcasing all their new 2017 H2 models - this will include a full product presentation into the runners, what the different models are for and the technology behind them.
GOLD COAST MARATHON
Best of luck to our athletes racing up on the Gold Coast this weekend. We have Carly racing her nth (we've lost count!) full distance Marathon and going for a pb while Sam and Malise (working as a pacer) are taking on the half. Good luck ladies and have a great event.
STRENGTH SESSION
We have a few spots left for our strength and conditioning session at 8848 next Wednesday evening 5th July - check below for details.
TRAINING UPDATES
This Saturday there are three ride options - one from Elwood on Beach Road, one from Wantirna Mall heading into the Dandenongs and one for the advanced crew heading from North Road again to the hills. See below for times and locations - check your program or chat with your coach if you are unsure of which location you should be at.
Thursday morning laps at Albert Park returned last week and continues this week with the focus on strength endurance - check your program or with your coach if you are unsure if you should attend this session.
Our Thursday evening Tan run is back this week with Coach Kat taking the session starting at the normal location by the main start/finish clock and drinking fountain. The Maribyrnong river run also returns with Coach Greg.
