I don't really know how to describe yesterday's race here in Brazil....
On one hand, bitterly disappointed and on the other, grateful to have the opportunity to race here and have the good fortune to be able to push on and finish. I had a pb swim of 54min, good T1, and was working legally with 3-4 other riders in a great spot, was on track to come through the first 90k in around 2.20 when bam, back wheel let go.
As you can see in the pic, hub cracked, two spokes blew out and I was going nowhere. Fortunately there was a mechanic just behind me and after 8-10 mins, removed another spoke, and kinda trued the wheel. Kept rolling not feeling safe at all, and 30k later pulled into shimano tent and got a new back wheel. 5-10k later in the pissing rain got a front flat....fixed that and kept going. Came into T2, and thought I'd try and have a solid run and see what happens. Ran ok, not awesome and came across in 9.34.52. Had 3 stops on the bike and lost exactly 16mins Garmin time to race time. Missed a Kona spot by 10mins 30....
I just want to thank everyone who has messaged and offered support recently, absolutely blown away with the support for a bloke just doing a triathlon. Lastly and most importantly a massive hug, kiss and love to Margaret for all her support before, during and after the race, means the world to me.
