With athletes and coaches back from one very successful camp in Thailand we are already thinking and planning the next with Queenscliff coming up in September. This camp is aimed at all athletes and is the transition from our technique and strength blocks into speed work. The 3 day camp over the 8/9/10 Sept will compromise of brick sessions and some speed specific work to start getting ready for racing. We will also have our first open water swim at Portarlington to test the waters and ensure our wetties still fit!
For more information and bookings on this great camp - staying at the comfortable YMCA lodges (carpets and heating included :-) check out the below or speak to your coach.
TIME TRIALS
As we get closer and closer to race season our next set of time trials is this week giving athletes the opportunity to see how they have progressed over winter. The technique and strength block is going well with some great improvements across the board. This morning we saw a large number take on 1k or 500m and tonight should see the St Michael's crew take on their TT.
With the bike test set last week, swims today that leaves the run time trials tomorrow. These will take place at either MSAC 615pm (no Tan session) or Essendon at 630pm. We expect to see all athletes in attendance working hard to see the gains.
TEAM MEETING
Next week on Thursday the 17th we have our next team meeting at Elwood Sailing Club. Please put this in your diaries to ensure you get the latest on the squad. Mizuno will be in attendance show casing their new 2017 H2 range and taking us through in detail the specifics and technology behind their runners. We will also spend some time covering the Triathlon Word Champs on the Gold Coast next year and how to go about Qualifying for them.
VICTORIAN DUATHLON SERIES
This Sunday sees the first race of the Duathlon series at Richmond and entries close later today so make sure you have signed up. They are a great way to stay motivated over winter, a good hit out to see where you are at following all the technique and strength work, a great brick training session and an excellent opportunity to work on your speed, as they are an hour of power!
We highly encourage athletes to take part in the series as athletes in the past have gained plenty from the races and been that little sharper than their competitors come Tri season. For info and registrations check out the following link:
http://www.triathlon.org.au/State_Associations/VIC/Events/Victorian_Duathlon_Series.htm
With athletes racing our MSAC long run will move to the Richmond event and run along the course supporting those out there. The Fairfield run will also make its way to the race course.
TRIATHLON VICTORIA DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
Congratulations to athletes Tegan Burns and Monty Cooper in both being selected on the Tri Vic Development Team. This team is aimed at guiding and supporting young up and coming athletes in the sport of Triathlon with specific camps, coaching and events aimed and fast tracking them towards the top. Both Tegan and Monty have been going great guns the past season and we look forward to seeing their progress again in the coming year.
TRAINING TIMETABLE UPDATES
From next week as some sessions are growing in volume we will be starting 15 minutes earlier on our Tuesday morning MSAC run, Wednesday and Friday morning MSAC swims. All will now start at 545am and they run until 7am. Please spread the word and let your fellow athletes know of the changes.
PORT PHILIP SURVEY
It has been brought to our attention that at the recent council elections, a candidate campaigned on the policy of shutting down triathlon and other events in the area because it disrupts residents Sunday morning latte experience (our words, not theirs). The City of Port Philip is wanting to find out more information on residents and non-residents feelings with a survey on events held in the area:
http://haveyoursay.portphillip.vic.gov.au/events-festivals
We highly encourage all athletes to rally in their support for triathlon in the area and fend off the risk of Triathlons and other events finding it harder to get their permits in this area. Please do complete the survey ASAP as it closes this Sunday the 13th.
