MOOLOOLABA CAMP

Our Mooloolaba camp is fast approaching and we have 10 spots left so get in quick! For those  who haven’t been to a training camp before they are a great way to meet some new squad members, have a good training hit out and enjoy a weekend away at the beach. At all our camps we cater for different abilities and split the group up accordingly. For beginners and first time Mooloolaba participants we will be covering all aspects of the Mooloolaba course as well as learning more skills particularly around open water swimming and transitions.

Our more advance athletes will use the weekend as a solid training weekend, working on gaining some miles on the bike as well as incorporating more intensity and speed work into their training.

The cost of the camp is $330 and you can view details at http://qld.dev.tri-alliance.com.au/qld-training-camps-2/

RSVP to qld@dev.tri-alliance.com.au to reserve your spot.

TRI SUITS

The new Tri Alliance tri suits have arrived. We will have these at training this week in Brisbane Friday/Saturday mornings and the Gold Coast Wednesday/Thursday night and Saturday morning.

Please email qld@dev.tri-alliance.com.au with any sizing issues by the end of the week so we can arrange exchanges.

CLUB CHAMPS

Round 3 of the Triathlon Qld club champs series is next weekend on the Gold Coast.  The race is the aquathlon over a 2.5km run/1km swim/2.5km run at the Broadwater where the Luke Harrop Tri is held.

We are currently leading, but not by much and the clubs behind us will be doing everything they can to reduce our lead.  So we need as many people as possible racing to maintain our lead going into the last race in April.

Entries for the race close this coming Monday the 14th of January so don’t delay.  Ensure you put down  Tri Alliance as your club when entering.  After the race we’ll be having a bbq and it also sees the return of the XMAS Olympics with tug of war, beach flags and other fun events.

Stay tuned to the Tri Alliance facebook page for more details. Bring along your family and friends, make a weekend of it and help make Tri Alliance the club champions for 2012/13 season.

LIFE MEMBERS

After our change to Tri Alliance we have been asked if the Life Member program will stay in place.  The answer is yes but instead of awarding them through the year we have decided to keep all our awards including life members to the end of season party.

In the coming months we’ll release details of this year’s event so stay tuned.

SMIDDY FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN

Now that we’re into the New Year and the holidays are behind us we’ll be organising different fundraising events to raise funds for the Smiddy Campaign.  Things such as movie nights and raffles along with individual fundraising efforts will go along way to helping us raise the $100, 000 we need by Noosa this year.

If you want to start your own fundraising page it is easy. Go to http://www.smiddyfundraising.com.au/tri_alliance_queensland Remember you can receive up to 4 months free training through your fundraising efforts.

The team from Smiddy are also the official charity for IM WA for the next 3 years.  They have 50 spots available for the race if you missed out on general entry.  All you have to do is raise a minimum $1000 and pay the race entry fee and you’ll be able to race.  Also any money you raise will go towards the Tri Alliance Smiddy fundraising campaign.

LONG COURSE EVENTS

Whilst on the subject of IM events we have also been asked what long course races we’ll focus on after Cairns this year.  With close to 60 members competing in Cairns it demonstrates how popular the long course events are becoming.

In 2014 we’ll having squad campaigns for IM Melbourne in March, IM Cairns in June and IM WA in December.  What this means is that our coaching resources will be pushed towards those races so things like camps, long course training sessions and information sessions will primarily revolve around those events.

We’ll continue to support members who choose to race other IM events through personalised programming and continuing to cater at squad sessions.  However it means that none of the coaching staff will be at those races for race day.

Other events including 70.3 races and races such as Hell of the West can be easily incorporate into the squad program.  IM races however require a little more planning.

On that note we’re having an information session for everyone competing at Cairns.  It will be on Monday January 28th from 5pm at the Mater Foundation offices.  We will cover everything training related, key dates for camps/lead up races and information about the actual course.  Put it in your diaries now and look out for the invitation on the facebook page.

TRAINING

Over the next 3-6 months we have a lot of key races coming up.  Hell of the West , QTS series, Mooloolaba, IM Melbourne and NZ, club champs, Byron Bay and finishing with IM Cairns and Cairns 70.3IM.

To get the best possible performance it is about consistent training, recovering well and maximising every training session.  Maximising every training session more so when at squad sessions means working to the required intensity.

That intensity at squad sessions is often up around 85-90% of your maximum heart rate.  Back to the old and faithful rule of hard on your hard sessions and easy on your easy sessions.  Use the sessions on your own as easy recovery sessions and the squad ones as the hard ones.

The squad sessions are the ones that will give you the most bang for your buck in terms of improving fitness through greater endurance, strength and speed.  They challenge you, get you out of your comfort zone and take you to places you wouldn’t go on your own.

Use the coaching team for advice at sessions.  If you want some more specific advice then we have one on one coaching consultations available or personal programs.  Often all it takes is a one on one session with a coach to give you some clarity about your training and racing goals.
