IM MELBOURNE
Congratulations to our athletes that competed at the recent IM Melbourne event. All IM races are hard and when you throw in strong winds that forced organisers to shorten the swim it added another challenge for all those that competed.
You knew when you were standing on the beach watching the swim and seeing some competitors turn around after a couple of hundred meters of swimming that it was rough going out there.
Those same winds also provided some mental challenges on the bike and then running 42km into a headwind to finish the day meant you well and truly deserved your finishers medal.
Special congratulations to our first time IM finishers in Phillipa Smith, Kate Markey, Simon Corrie and Calum Lazenby. They adapted to the conditions very well and did not miss a beat all day. It was great to see them cross the line with huge smiles and that sense of satisfaction that comes with knowing they gave it everything and had achieved their goal of becoming an IM.
Well done to Krista Page who set a huge pb even taking into account the shortened swim. Krista was strong all day and will only get better in future races with the experience she now has behind her.
Unfortunately our final competitor Michael Harvey had to withdraw during the bike leg due to illness but he is entered in IM Cairns and will no doubt make amends there.
Phillipa has written a great experience of her race at Melbourne. Go to http://qld.dev.tri-alliance.com.au/2013/04/04/phillipa-smith-race-report-im-melbourne-2013/
We welcome anyone else that would like to write about their experiences at different events. We all in one way or another have a story to tell so if you have one send it through to us.
TQ CLUB CHAMPS REDCLIFFE
This weekend is the last race of the Club Champs series at Redcliffe. The series has been great to be part of and win lose or draw we certainly look forward to being part of it again next year.
We’ll be having a bbq as usual at the tent so bring family and friends along to help support the team. It is also one of the last races of the season and a good chance to finish off well with it being the State Sprint Champs.
Thanks to our wonderful sponsors we have some great randome prizes to give away for everyone that competed during the series. We’ll be drawing all these prizes at our end of season party on June 22nd.

BEGINNER COURSE
Our latest group of beginner course athletes are nearing the end of the 6 week program. This Saturday morning is their transition session at Redcliffe before completing the course at the Luke Harrop Triathlon the following weekend.
Next week they’ll also join into some of the main squad sessions to help familiarise them with our program. If you see them at training make them feel welcome by saying hello. A simple greeting from an established member to a new person into the group goes along way with making them feel more comfortable.
TRAINING
Our long course program is in full swing at the moment with only 9 weeks until Cairns. This Saturday morning is the famous 4 Mountains ride starting at Mt. Cootha and then in a couple of weeks it is onto Noosa for a 4 day training camp.
For our short course athletes we have an ocean swim at Redcliffe on Saturday morning. With the Sprint Champs on Sunday, Luke Harrop the week after and Byron Bay we still have a something to keep working towards. These open water sessions are a great opportunity to further develop your racing skills.
